The Importance of Exercise for Pets
Whether you own a smaller dog like a Yorkie or a much larger dog, like a Golden Retriever or German Shepherd, it’s important for your dog to get an adequate amount of exercise. Daily fitness can help them maintain a healthy weight and can prolong their life. Physical fitness also has mental and emotional benefits for dogs.
Last year Creekside Pet Hotel implemented a new Canine Wellness and Fitness Program to help your pets maintain a long, happy and healthy life. Let’s discuss the importance of pet exercise to discover how it can improve the quality of life for your pet.
Weight Management
Weight management is a common problem for pets, particularly pets that spend a significant amount of time indoors. Obesity can cause many health problems in dogs such as arthritis and heart failure. While it’s good for your dog to follow a healthy diet, it doesn’t replace the benefits of daily exercise and they need to burn calories to maintain a healthy weight.
Dog treadmills are specifically built to accommodate the size and weight of your pet. It’s one of the best ways for dogs to get adequate exercise, especially indoors on rainy days.
Creekside Pet Hotel has a dog treadmill that you can schedule time for your dog while they’re at dog daycare. Check out our Facebook Page where we’ve been posting lots of our dog treadmill videos.

Mental Awareness
The mental awareness of your dog is just as important as it’s physical health. Dogs need mental stimulation to lead happy lives. Many dog breeds like to be challenged in a physical or intellectual way and can demonstrate destructive behavior if they are bored at home for long periods.
Dog Nature Trails at Creekside Pet Hotel are an excellent way to improve the mental awareness of your dog. They allow dogs to exercise in a fun environment, smelling the scents and seeing the new sights around every corner.
Emotional Stability
Everyone wants their dog to be happy. Dogs frequently left alone can develop anxiety and depression. Our dog daycare allows them to socialize with each other in a safe and fun environment.
Our canine fitness pool can also improve the emotional stability they crave. If your dog is overweight and having joint concerns, a swim in the pool may be the best exercise for them. It’s also a great way for them to keep cool in the hot Atlanta weather.
As we’ve discussed, dogs need daily exercise to lead happy and healthy lives. Weight management is one of the best ways to prolong the life of your dog. Regular exercise is an excellent way to keep your pet in shape and increase their mental awareness.

Creekside encourages all pet owners to consult a veterinarian prior to enrolling their pet in any exercise or training program. If weight loss is your goal, we can work with you and your veterinarian to implement a program to achieve your pet’s goals.
